Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the vacant posts of Trainee Treatment Plant Operator with the Barbados Water Authority.
The successful candidates will work under the supervision of the Superintendent of Works – Wastewater Department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operating and maintaining all equipment necessary for the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater components.
- Monitoring the treatment processes for physical, biological, chemical as well as relevant electrical and mechanical parameters.
- Sampling and laboratory testing of wastewater components.
- Making authorized adjustments to processes as indicated by laboratory analyses or other legitimate observed results.
- Monitoring, operating and managing scavenger/septage waste handling facilities.
- Any other related duties as assigned by your Supervisor or his designate.
Educational Requirements
- Class A, Band C (ABC) Operators Certification in Wastewater Treatment;
OR
- Secondary level education with five (5) CXC or “O” level certificates including Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- This job will require six (6) to eight (8) months on the job experience to learn about the sewerage treatment process and equipment and to demonstrate job competence.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- The ability to quickly understand instructions and underlying principles of the operations of the system;
- Attention to detail and attainment of precise set limits and tolerances;
- Good computer literacy (e.g. competency in Microsoft Word and Excel);
- Good written communication skills to document equipment problems and record equipment readings and test results;
- Excellent knowledge of mathematics and chemistry to record and interpret equipment readings and perform calculations for monthly reports.
