Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals to fill the vacant post of Supervisor, Accounts Payable – Barbados Water Authority.

 

The Supervisor, Accounts Payable, will report to the Manager of Finance – Budget and Planning.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the appropriate Local Purchase Order (LPO) accompany all invoices together with other supporting documentation and that invoices are properly authorised for payment.
  • Ensure correct account numbers are allocated, and invoices are batched for keying into the system.
  • Cross-check batch totals with printed report and cross-check cheques with register.
  • Prepare journal entries for payments.
  • Ensure VAT returns are prepared and allocate VAT totals to appropriate account numbers.
  • Contact suppliers to resolve payment problems.
  • Prepare schedules at end of month for accruals.
  • Manage, lead, and train accounts payable staff
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounts payable ledger
  • Reconcile accounts payable accounts
  • Resolve any accounts payable issues or discrepancies
  • Develop and implement accounts payable policies and procedures
  • Prepare accounts payable reports (Cheque Proposal list, AP Aging report, expenditure reports etc.)
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
  • Perform various accounting tasks including audit support work.
  • Organize and plan work flow of assigned responsibilities for the AP team to ensure that work is completed in a timely manner and in coordination with other interrelated accounting functions.
  • Maintain accurate vendor account database and filing system
  • Cross check purchase orders, receiving reports and invoices, to ensure accuracy and timely processing of payments
  • Ensure all statutory requirements such as filing of Value Added Tax Returns and Goods and Services including Royalties filings are completed accurately and timely
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Finance – Budget and Planning or his/her designate.

 

Educational Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Accounting with five years’ experience in a financial environment.

 

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to guide and support the team;
  • Ability to delegate tasks, provide feedback, and manage performance;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
