The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) wishes to inform the public that consultants working on behalf of the Authority will be conducting household surveys to support the upgrading of the Bridgetown Sewage Treatment Plant (BSTP), which forms part of the 3R-CReWS Project (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle for Climate Resilience Wastewater Systems in Barbados).
This initiative is being funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Government of Barbados and implemented by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), in collaboration with the BWA.
From May 31 to June 29, 2025, enumerators contracted by the project’s consultants will be visiting communities surrounding the BSTP’s Lakes Folly, St. Michael location. Surveys will be conducted daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday through Saturday, with enumerators working in pairs.
These interviews are an essential part of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed upgrade of the BSTP to a tertiary-level treatment facility. The ESIA is a regulatory requirement of the Planning and Development Department (PDD).
Through this exercise, the consultants, on behalf of the BWA and CCCCC, seek to engage residents and business operators to document their experiences, expectations, and suggestions. Your input will directly inform the ESIA and the proposed improvement works.
All information provided will be kept strictly confidential and used solely for the preparation of the ESIA report for the PDD.
Enumerators will be active in the following areas and surrounding communities:
Lakes Folly, Tudor Street, Westbury Road, School Lane, Pans Alley, Rock Gap, St. Mary’s Row, Wartons Gap, Gowdy Gap, Emmerton Lane, Suttle Street, Hinkson Gap, Chapman Lane, St. Michael’s Row, Hutson Alley, Baxter’s Road, Redman’s Drive, Fontabelle Road, Kensington New Road.
Enumerators will carry official photo identification and a Letter of Authorization.
Residents and business operators are kindly asked to extend their cooperation during this period. The Barbados Water Authority thanks you in advance for assisting the project’s Consultants in gathering this important information. (ENDS)
