PRESS RELEASE – Statement from the Barbados Water Authority in Response to a Fake BWA Tik Tok Account in Circulation

The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) takes this opportunity to state categorically that the Tik Tok account under the name Barbados Water Works (@246bwa) which is currently being circulated is not a legitimate account of the BWA.

This account in fact, features the Barbados Water Authority logo and footage taken from the Authority’s legitimate social media pages and reuses the material in a dangerous and malicious manner.

The information being shared on this platform indicating that persons can pay their water bills via First Pay is also false.  The third party agencies which receive online and mobile payment of water bills on behalf of the Barbados Water Authority remain as follows:

• CIBC Caribbean

• Republic Bank

• First Citizens Bank

• SurePay

The BWA invites persons who come across this fake Tik Tok account to report it to Tik Tok as precisely what it is – harmful misinformation.
