Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the post of Disconnection/ Reconnection Assistant with the Barbados Water Authority (BWA).The Disconnection/Reconnection Assistant will operate under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Recoveries Department.
The successful applicant will be required to perform the following functions:
- Synchronize the MobileTech app on the BWA’s computer device, at the start of the day and in the field, to receive any assigned jobs and update completed jobs.
- Enter the details to complete job appointments in MobileTech whilst in the field, including the taking of any relevant pictures, noting meter information and recording of time spent on the job.
- Driving to assigned areas and locating services for disconnection or reconnection.
- Checking the meter number and recording the meter reading and customer information on services intended for the disconnection or reconnection.
- Effecting disconnection/reconnection by affixing or removing the lock from services as assigned as well as locking the ball-valve which does not require a locking device.
- In the absence of a computer device, the jobs must be completed manually on service orders.
- Reporting damaged meters and locking devices or appurtenances and incidents of suspected tampering.
- Recording directions to assist in locating services.
- Assist with developing and implementing performance improvement plans.
- Completing on a daily basis, the specified minimum number of jobs which constitute a day’s work.
- Reporting to the office of the Recoveries Unit at the time specified for instructions re service connections which must be carried out on a particular day.
- Completing and returning all disconnection and reconnection service orders to the Supervisor, Recoveries Unit no later than 8:15 a.m. the next morning following the date of completion of the jobs manually.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
The successful applicant should have:
- Completion of a Secondary School Education.
- A valid manual light goods licence for a minimum period of three (3) years.
- Must be 25 years or older.
- A recent police certificate of character is required.
SKILLS REQUIRED
- The ability to operate an Apple iPad tablet equipped with a sim card.
- Requires good communication and interpersonal skills to interact totally with customers in the field.
- Requires basic technical knowledge of meters, their operation and procedure for attaching and removing ball valve locks.
- Requires moderate manual dexterity to use tools to adjust, apply and remove ball valve locks and perform routing operations where coordination and accuracy are required.
- A period of three to four months on the job training is required to, become familiar with the geographical network; to acquire the technical knowledge relating to meter operation and applying and removing ball valve locks.
- Requires tact, diplomacy, diligence and vigilance when visiting customer premises to disconnect service.
