Our Story

The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) is a Statutory Body established by an act of Legislature on 8th October, 1980 to replace the Waterworks Department of Government. It commenced operations on April 1, 1981. It is the entity in Barbados charged with supplying the island with potable water as well as the provision of wastewater treatment and disposal services to the sewered areas of Bridgetown and the South Coast.

The Authority is also responsible for the monitoring, assessment, control and protection of the water resources in the public’s interest

What We Do

Provision of Potable Water

The  Authority is the statutory body responsible for supplying the island of Barbados with potable water.

Wastewater Treatment

We provide wastewater treatment and disposal services to the sewered areas of Bridgetown and the South Coast.

Protection of water resources

The Authority is responsible for the monitoring, assessment, control and protection of the island’s water resources.

Water Wednesdays

Water Wednesdays is a production of the Barbados Water Authority created to provide the Authority with a forum to inform and educate the public via a series of television features highlighting: general water and wastewater matters of interest; works being undertaken by the BWA that will benefit or affect customers; emergency or crisis water or wastewater situations or any other water related topics of public interest.
